Tampa Bay Cosmetic Surgery Center: Understanding the Distinction between Cosmetic Surgery and Plastic Surgery

At the Tampa Bay Cosmetic Surgery Center, we believe it’s essential for our patients to have a clear understanding of the difference between cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery. While both fields aim to enhance the body, they have distinct goals, philosophies, and approaches that guide their practices, training, and patient outcomes.

Cosmetic Surgery: Enhancing Appearance and Self-Confidence

Cosmetic surgery is a specialized field of medicine that is entirely focused on enhancing a patient’s appearance and helping them achieve their aesthetic goals. The procedures, techniques, and principles of cosmetic surgery are tailored towards improving symmetry, proportion, and overall aesthetic appeal. These elective procedures can be performed on various areas of the head, neck, and body, including the breasts, face, abdomen, and more. At the Kass Center, our highly skilled cosmetic surgeon, specializes in a wide range of cosmetic procedures to help patients enhance their features and boost their self-confidence.

Types of Cosmetic Surgery Procedures at Kass Center:

Facial Contouring: We provide rhinoplasty (nose surgery), chin augmentation, and cheek enhancement procedures to refine facial features and create better facial balance.

Facial Rejuvenation: Our comprehensive range of facial rejuvenation procedures includes facelifts, eyelid lifts, neck lifts, and brow lifts to help patients achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

Body Contouring: We offer transformative body contouring procedures such as liposuction, and gynecomastia treatment to sculpt and reshape the body, removing excess fat and improving body proportions.

Skin Rejuvenation: Our advanced skin rejuvenation treatments, including laser resurfacing, Botox®, and filler injections, help patients address common skin concerns, reduce wrinkles, and achieve smoother, more radiant skin.

Plastic Surgery: Restoring Function and Reconstructing Defects
At the Kass Center, while we perform some select plastic surgical procedures on select patients, our emphasis is on Cosmetic Surgery to improve the aesthetic appearance of each and every patient we see. After over thirty-five years in practice, we believe that Dr. Kas has the requisite skills, experience, and expertise that few others possess to perform a wide range of cosmetic procedures with precision and artistry.

Training and Certification: Ensuring Excellence and Expertise

The training and certification processes for board-certified cosmetic surgeons and plastic surgeons are distinct, reflecting the unique practice goals and requirements of each field.

For plastic surgeons, comprehensive training is completed through post-graduate residency programs that typically include cosmetic surgery as a component. This involves either an integrated residency program combining three years of general surgery and three years of plastic surgery or an independent five-year residency program in general surgery followed by a three-year plastic surgery residency. This training equips plastic surgeons with a solid foundation in reconstructive procedures, along with exposure to cosmetic surgery techniques.

On the other hand, cosmetic surgery training is primarily pursued after residency training. Board-certified cosmetic surgeons undergo residency training in a medical specialty followed by additional fellowships and training programs specifically focused on cosmetic surgery. This specialized training ensures that cosmetic surgeons possess the necessary skills and expertise to perform a wide range of cosmetic procedures with precision and artistry.

It’s important to note that while being board certified as a plastic surgeon indicates expertise and training in plastic surgery, it may not encompass training in various cosmetic procedures. The title does not necessarily indicate more or less cosmetic surgery training compared to physicians certified in other specialties. Therefore, at the Kass Center, we emphasize the importance of choosing a surgeon who has the specific training and experience in the cosmetic procedure you desire.

At the Tampa Bay Cosmetic Surgery Center, we prioritize patient education, safety, and satisfaction. Our highly qualified and board-certified cosmetic and eye plastic surgeon is dedicated to delivering exceptional results, combining the latest techniques, advanced technology, and personalized care.
