As we age, the structure and elasticity of our skin begins to weaken causing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, loss of volume within the face, and other signs of aging. For many patients, these signs may begin a long search for treatment options that can help to restore youthfulness and volume into their skin. If you are looking to improve delicate areas of your skin with minimal risk and short recovery time, look no further than Nano Fat Grafting at Kass Center for Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery.
What is Nano Fat Grafting?
Nano Fat Grafting, or micro fat grafting, is a fat transfer procedure that uses ultra-thin cannulas to move very small amounts of fat from one area of the body to more delicate areas, such as the face and hands, to give you a smoother, softer, and more rejuvenated appearance.
This type of fat transfer is effective in skin rejuvenation as purified fat cells contain numerous growth factors that can increase collagen production and regeneration which allows your skin to look fuller, more hydrated, and youthful.
Nano Fat Grafting seeks to improve the appearance of your skin by:
- Smoothing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and creases
- Adding volume to hallowed areas such as the cheeks and midface
- Lessening the appearance of discoloration and scars
It is important to note that though Nano Fat Grafting is similar to structural fat grafting, they are not the same procedure. Structural fat grafting seeks to significantly improve the facial structure by restoring overall volume and contour. Nano Fat Grafting is used primarily to target signs of aging, improve skin tone and texture, as well as reduce signs of discoloration, scars, and blemishes. Though typically applied to the facial area, Nano Fat Grafting can also be used on other areas of the body such as the neck, hands, and chest. Nano Fat Grafting can be performed in conjunction with other procedures such as a facelift or structural fat grafting.
Risks
When performed by a board-certified doctor experienced in this technique, Nano Fat Grafting is very safe as the fat is 100% compatible with your body eliminating the risk of rejection or allergic reaction as opposed to other filler treatments. Though considered a minimally invasive procedure, with any procedure there can be some associated risk. This is especially true when breaking the skin. With Nano Fat Grafting there is a minimal risk of infection and scarring.
Preparation
During the initial consultation, your doctor will evaluate your medical history and perform a physical exam to determine whether Nano Fat Grafting is an ideal treatment for you. Dr. Kass may examine and measure other areas of your face for balance and symmetry. Please be honest about your expectations for the treatment and desired results so that you receive the best treatment for your needs.
Prior to your procedure, we may recommend that you stop smoking before your treatment and during recovery as smoking can slow the healing process and increase the risk of tissue damage. Certain medications may also need to be avoided such as anti-inflammatory medication which can increase bleeding. On the day of the procedure, please arrange for someone to bring you to and from the office as you will not be able to drive after the procedure.
Procedure
Nano Fat Grafting is typically performed as an outpatient procedure. The procedure begins by using a fine cannula to harvest fat from the buttocks, hips, lower abdomen, or thighs. As the name suggests, Nano Grafting only requires a small amount of fat to be taken.
The fat is then processed and refined in a centrifuge to separate the fat into a smooth liquid concentration of micro fat particles. The purified concentrate is then filtered and injected into the desired area using an ultra-fine cannula. This procedure requires precise injections to create detailed changes with natural-looking results.
Recovery and results
Swelling following the procedure will depend on the areas being treated but can typically last 2-3 weeks before subsiding. Moderate bruising and soreness may occur but should resolve within a few days. We recommend patients avoiding touching the treated areas for at least 24 hours. However, patients should be able to return to normal activities within several days unless otherwise advised by their doctor. It will take time for the full results to be seen as the injected fat does need time to adjust, but many patients begin to notice improvement within the first few weeks.
